Browsers

The browser is the most essential program in the world today. Pick one of those privacy respecting tools but don't trust it blindly, companies and their policies change. It has happened before, it will happen again. Stay vigilant, protect yourself.

Firefox

An open source web browser developed by Mozilla. It currently has the only alternative to Chromium rendering engine - Gecko. Use it to keep the Web browsing technology more diverse. The default browser privacy settings has to be changed before using it for a first time. In the past years it seem like Mozilla has lost its focus and vision, but they are still good guys... at least for now.

Vivaldi

The spiritual successor of the original Opera Browser (till 2010-2011). It's not open source, and it's using the Chromium rendering engine. Still under the leadership of Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner the company policies are user privacy respecting and it seems like a good choice. It is feature rich and it offers a ton of customizations - just like the original Opera browser. It's a swiss army knife in a Web browser shaped box. Power user friendly.

Brave

It's a good browser. It really is. Privacy focused by incarnation with good privacy defaults. It is open source and it is using the Chromium rendering engine. But there is something not quite right with the focus on cryptocurrencies. Every new feature in the browser is focused on cryptocurrencies. Still when all the crypto crap is disabled - it's a good choice.

Extensions

The browser addons, enhance and improve the general browser experience. But to do that we grant each extension with a lot of permissions. A rogue extension will log and report everything we do, the right one will help us be sane. Always validate and challenge the utilities you are about to use.

The list bellow is a battle tested in time. Each extension works and supports multiple browsers and OSs... well except iOS, none of those extension work on iOS because this is what the Gods in Cupertino are commanding.

uBlock Origin

An open source content filter browser extension. Fast, light and reliable. It is a good choice for ad blocking.

Decentraleyes

An open source browser addon that is used for local CDN emulation. By blocking requests to major CDN providers (like Google) and serving the content locally, it helps to reduces the ways you are being tracked and profiled on the net.

Privacy Badger

An EFF open source browser extension. It is designed specifically to block 3rd party trackers from secretly tracking you on the web. As it is an EFF project this recommendation is a no brainier.

CleanURLs

An open source browser extension designed to automatically sanitize the URLs by removing the tracking elements in them, like in infamous umt_source, umt_medium, umt_campaign and many (unfortunately) more.
